Can You Iron Out Wrinkles On The Face?

Yes, it is possible to “iron out” wrinkles on the face. But definitely, not literally. How you must wish your face to be like any wrinkled fabric that you can get an iron over to smooth the wrinkles out. Well it’s not, and getting the wrinkles off are much more complicated than smoothing out the creases on your best Sunday dress.

If you are looking to ‘iron out” the wrinkles off your face, the closest thing to get it done is through the use of laser technology.

Laser Therapy For Wrinkles

Laser therapy is one of the more popular methods of getting rid of wrinkles without undergoing a surgical procedure. It’s minimally invasive and has the capability of stimulating the production of collagen without causing damage to the tissues.

Laser Skin Tightening

Laser skin tightening makes use of laser light and cool air to reduce the visibility of wrinkles. The heat produced by the light promotes collagen production without burning the outer layer of the skin. by promoting through a controlled heat.

The procedure, though effective, comes with several precautions:

  • Limited exposure to the sun for 3 to 4 weeks before the scheduled laser skin tightening procedure is advised.
  • Using sunscreen with SPF 30 is necessary if exposure to sunlight is inevitable.
  • One day before the treatment, don’t use lotions or creams, especially those with Vitamin A.

Laser Skin Tightening is done by a cosmetic surgeon after the necessary evaluations have been taken. The surgeon preps the skin of the patient, removing any oils and makeup residue. He or she then covers the eyes of the patient to protect it from the heat. Local anesthetic may or may not be given.

The skin may turn reddish after the procedure, and there may be bruising as well. In many cases, these are only temporary. There may also be some degree of pain that can be relieved by applying ice packs on the affected area and/or taking a pain reliever.

Laser Skin Tightening is an expensive procedure, costing between $500 and $3500 per session.

Less Expensive Ways Of Ironing Out Facial Wrinkles

Botox Injections

Botox injections are growing in popularity as they are less expensive (at roughly $350/injection), less invasive, and less painful. The procedure involves the injection of an FDA-approved toxin into the skin surrounding the eyes to control nerve impulses that cause the muscles to contract. This results to less visible wrinkles and younger looking skin.

Botox comes with very minimal side effects, if at all. The effects are also immediate, however temporary. Usually, the effects do not last longer than two months, so by then you’ll be needing another shot to maintain your appearance.

Collagen Injections

Not to be confused with Botox, Collagen Injections aim to plump and lift up the skin, giving it a smoother and younger look with less visible lines and creases showing up. Collagen Injections are especially useful to fine lines surrounding the eyes, as well as those surrounding the mouth.

Like Botox, Collagen Injections are priced affordably at $350 to $450 per shot. And like Botox, the effects of Collagen Injections are only temporary.

Microdermabrasion

Cheaper than any of the aforementioned therapies is Microdermabrasion costing only $200 per treatment. Microdermabrasion works by sort of exfoliating the topmost layer of the skin, effectively getting rid of surface wrinkles after several sessions.

Creams with Antioxidants

If you don’t want to undergo any of these procedures, you ought to focus your interest on creams that contain high levels of antioxidants. These may not totally erase wrinkles but they can greatly help in making them less visible as well as in improving the overall appearance of your skin.
