Classification of Ringworm

Ringworm can be classified into a lot of different species. Trichophyton and Microsporum are the most common sources of such fungi. This fungus deals with numerous part of the body that could lead to:

Athlete’s foot, which is also known as ringworm of the foot and also as “Hong Kong foot” is a fungal disease that causes scaling, flaking, and itching on the affected parts. It is commonly transmitted in bathhouses or showers since people commonly walk in wet bathhouse or showers. Aside from feet, it could also reach other parts of the body.

Onychomycosis, which is also known as “ringworm of the nail” and can be found on nails. Most of the diseases that can be seen in a nail comes from it.

It concerns toenails and fingernails. However, it can be regularly found on toenails.

Tinea corporis, which is identified as ringworm is a surface fungal infection of both arms and legs, but it could also happen in other parts of the body.

Tinea cruris is known as jock itch or gym itch since it can be found on the groin area. It is commonly seen on males but female might also develop it.

Tinea Manuum can also be found on hands but it is more aggressive than tinea pedis. Symptoms include itching, burning, cracking, and scaling. It can be transmitted through sexual intercourse whether or not the symptoms are there.

Tinea capitis or ringworm of the scalp is a surface fungal infection that occurs in the scalp. It produces single or multiple patches of hair losses that has a black dot pattern and go together with inflammation, scaling, pustules, and itching. The infection is not common on adult; but it can be repeatedly seen on tweens.

Tinea barbæ, which is known as barber’s itch or ringworm of the beard is a fungal disease that can be found on hair. It resulted from the infection around the bearded part of men. It is commonly seen on people who are working in the agricultural industry because it mostly comes from animals and seldom transfers from human-to-human.

Tinea faciei is a fungal disease that takes place on the face of a human. It emerges as a red rash on the face that is followed by small patches of raised bumps. This fungal infection can easily spread just by touching it.

Tinea versicolor is a condition which can be distinguish by a rash on the trunk and proximal extremities. The fungi can be found on the skin but only becomes bothersome if the environment is both warm and humid.

Tinea Nigra is a surface fungal infection that produces dark brown to black patches and is found on the soles of the hands and feet.
