CTM (Cleansing, Toning and Moisturizing) – 3 Simple Steps to Clear Your Acne!

It is the simplest and most effective form of acne treatment. Its secret is its simplicity and the regularity of use. Some people think that dermatological and expensive topical and internal medication can help remove the signs of acne forever. However, the best way to beat acne is to stick to the basics. The three-step system of cleansing, toning and moisturizing is a sure-way to keep your face clean and clear of acne.

1. Cleansing

A clean face is always a great way to start your process. Some people believe that washing one’s face five times a day will help clear your acne but it’s actually quite the opposite. You skin relies on oil it produces naturally to hydrate the skin’s surface. Over cleansing can result to dry skin making it more prone to acne. First, you need to clear your face of makeup by wiping away all traces of makeup. Some people like to use cold cream however, if you are prone to acne, it would be best to use a damp towel cloth instead. Cold cream is also advisable to use if it is non-comedogenic or doesn’t clog pores. Use a mild facial cleanser. You can get a specially formulated cleanser from your dermatologist because cleansers sold in the market are often too harsh on your skin. Do a thorough cleansing of your face and neck. Use a clean towel and gently blot your face instead of wiping it.

2. Toning

Usually, astringents are not recommended for acne sufferers. They can be a little harsh and can worsen the already inflamed lesions on your face. It can even increase the chances of scarring if you use astringents on broken skin. However, astringent can also be good for reduction of oil or sebum in the face. There are astringents that are made especially for acne-prone skin and can be bought over the counter. However, it is advisable to use a specially-formulated toner from your dermatologist and use sparingly. Use only in areas where skin is not broken and only in the affected areas.

3. Moisturizing

Special moisturizers are usually made for acne sufferers. They can give relief for the skin from the pustules and cysts that often break out of the surface of the face. They can prevent dryness and the uncomfortable tightness that comes with acne. Moisturizers can be mixed with topical ointments and used to prevent the skin from drying out and flaking. The moisturizing lotion decreases the harshness that often comes with topical treatments. Moisturizers can be prepared adding benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, tretinoin and sulfur. Benzoyl peroxide and sulfur have an anti-bacterial effect. Tetracyclines, which are antibiotics, can reduce the number of bacteria in the follicles. Keratolytic preparations are good for loosening dead skin cells in the face reducing the risk of acne. However, they can have a drying effect and can cause soreness in the skin. That is the reason why keratolytic preparations are rarely mixed with moisturizers. After moisturizing, get a good night’s rest in anticipation of a clearer skin the day after.
