How to differentiate the different types of pimples that appear on the face

The pimples or acne are always associated with adolescents ages and puberty, but the truth is that they can appear at any age and, although it may seem almost always the same, there are many different types .

From Better with Health, they carry out a detailed analysis to learn to differentiate the different types that exist on the face, focusing especially on acne , defined by the SAR as “skin disease characterized by chronic inflammation of the sebaceous glands, especially in face and back. ”

The acne vulgaris or common is that little pimple on the face superficially and other areas of the body like back, chest and shoulders. Another common premenstrual acne is also small in size and is caused by hormonal changes in the days prior to menstruation.

A common one in men, teenagers as well as adults, is keloid acne , which usually appears in shaving areas caused by a bad blade or an allergic reaction to foam, as the main causes.

The babies also have acne . It occurs in the first 72 hours of life and is related to the hormones that the mother transfers to the newborn through the umbilical cord. This disappears with the passing of days.

There are also pimples caused by medications . It is latrogenic acne. Among the list of medications that can cause these types of pimples are androgens, anabolics, oral contraceptives, corticosteroids, isoniazids, and iodides. Like the rest, it manifests itself in the form of pimples with a purulent tip and is usually solved with a change in the medication.

A different type from the rest is the comedon , which usually manifests as a reddish bulge without a tip. It normally appears as a lesion caused by common acne and is a clogged hair follicle, fat or dead skin cells. The use of certain makeup products (and poor cleaning of these) can also cause them.

The black spots are a type of comedo appear excess oil or dead cells that clog the pores. Its black color has nothing to do with dirt, as many believe, but to the reaction of the fat in contact with the air.

On the other hand, there are the white dots , which occur when a comedone remains closed. The sebaceous gland cannot drain properly as fat and dead cells prevent the follicle from opening. They are usually solved with treatments that help open the follicles.

If a black or white spot becomes inflamed and turns pink or red, then we are talking about a papule . Dermatologists advise against handling them as they often lead to scarring if the situation worsens. There is talk of severe acne when the face has a large number of papules. Severe acne is not easy to treat and must be done with great care so that there are no marks on the face for life.

Similar to the white dot, but with a red halo, it is the pustule . They are inflamed pimples with lots of pus. It is also not advisable to burst them as they can leave a mark.

In women, especially, there is also what is known as acne rosacea . It usually appears from the age of 30, is pink or red, and sometimes reveals superficial blood vessels in the face. It appears mainly on the cheeks, chin and nose. If it is not treated correctly, it can inflame tissues where it is located. For example, inflammation of the nose from this cause is common.

A very painful pimple in the nodule , which usually appears in deeper layers of the skin. It shows as a firm bump under the skin and should be treated by a doctor.

One of the most serious and which also requires medical and surgical treatment is the cyst . They are usually like pus-filled bubbles and are removed with minor surgery and local anesthesia.

One of the most serious types of acne that exists is acne conglobota . More common in men, it usually occurs on the skin, thighs, chest, neck and arms. Its appearance is usually related to problems with the immune system.

There is still a more serious type of acne than the previous one and it is deep or disseminated folliculitis , caused by a bacterial infection as a result of poor treatment of pustules or cysts. It is usually resolved with antibiotics.
